Hay Budden claims they used the best material available and were produced by the finest American craftsmen. ![]() Postman's book also states that Hay Buddens were considered the best American made anvil. This anvil was made from the best American Wrought Iron and faced with the best Crucible Cast Steel plate. It has a shorter waist and doesn't look as top heavy as later styles. The cart and other anvils are NOT INCLUDED in this auction.According to Richard Postman's book "Anvils in America" this Solid Wrought Iron anvil was the first style anvil they made and is considered the most attractive style produced. Pictures say a thousand words, so please take a close look. There are serial numbers on the front foot that read "71675" which means this anvil was made in 1901. & CO., SOLID WROUGHT, WARRANTED" and "84" for the weight. since 1907" /id5.html The anvil has some chips and nicks. Incorporated from 1880-1907 and Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company Inc. William Burke Belknap = W.B.B"The Company was W.B. Another source has provided this information that should remove any doubt who the W.B.B. Then on page 526 an advertisement shows an anvil bearing the name W.B.B & CO. However on page 270 in Anvils In America, the book states that Arm & Hammer made anvils for Belknap with the name BH & M CO. In fact, it's not mentioned in the list of hardware companies in Anvils In America. This name is not common among hardware companies that Hay Budden made anvils for.
